Independent travelers are those sections of people who just want to travel around a country as per their convenience and comfort rather than booking a holiday through a tour operator. Kenya and Tanzania are two great destinations for independent travel in Africa.

The most important criterion that must be taken into consideration while planning a trip to both these countries is to look for the best time to visit. Since these two countries are strategically located near the equator, the best time to visit Tanzania and Kenya is between January and February. During summer, temperatures will be unbearable and rainy season is accompanied with continuous rains, thus making traveling really difficult.

Kenya and Tanzania are famous for their dense tropical rain forests that are spread over vast expanses of land. These forests are known for their rich diversity of flora and fauna. A major point of attraction is the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, where one can witness the birth of Zebra foals and Wildebeest during January and February. Another interesting spectacle to watch in Kenya and Tanzania is the migration of wildebeest. While in Kenya, this happens from July to September. The rest of the year, this migration occurs in Tanzania. January and February are also good for witnessing this amazing sight.

There are several important and fascinating destinations in Kenya and Tanzania that are worth a visit. Some important places to visit in Kenya include the Mount Kenya, Masai Mara National Reserve, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Watamu National Park. Similarly, some important places to watch in Tanzania include Arusha, Rift Valley, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Amboseli National Parks. Tanzania is also home for Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.

Kenya and Tanzania are known for their wild life safaris. One can witness some remarkable sights during a safari that include buffalos forging through the rivers in the middle of the jungle, elephants going slowly over the endless plains and lions stalking their prey through the savannah grass. Balloon safaris are an added attraction where one can go over one of the national parks in an air balloon. One can also enjoy a night in a tribal village or even head towards the coastal shores so as to have a memorable experience of diving and snorkeling. In fact, Zanzibar Island in Tanzania is a remarkable destination for a beach holiday.
